My Glass IS Half Full

As Charles Dickens said, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times…”

But, in typical DSP Dixie style,  it happened in reverse: Worst. Best.

I was browsing through Family Circle magazine in the dentist’s waiting room. Now, for some that alone might constitute the “worst” of times. I had no choice, they don’t stock my favorite read, Garden & Gun magazine. Anyway, I happened upon a new product: The Wine-Trax.

“The decorative lines on these glasses indicate 4, 6, and 8-ounce portions SO YOU DON’T OVERDO IT.”

Gasp. The thought of having lines on my wine glass that lets everyone (including me) know how much I poured was more than I could manage in my pre-cavity-filling state. What spawn of the Devil created this terrible idea?

Indeed, it was the worst of times…

I slammed shut ol’ buzz-kill Family Circle and sought comfort in the more lush and inviting Bon Appetit.  It was at that moment, my luck would change. There, in all it’s glory— a familiar friend, yes, a favorite of mine– the Riedel Vinum Pinot Noir glass lovingly placed amongst alluring foodie spreads. Below the image read the words…

“This Riedel graciously holds an entire bottle of wine”

It was as though angels wrote those words, parted the clouds and sun shined through. Did I mention I own these glasses? They are the less expensive Reidel’s sold at Target, after all.

Alas, once again, it was the best of times.

Tonight, my dears, I will simply enjoy ONE glass (albeit a Riedel Vinum glass) and call it a night.
