Guest Writer: Single Mom Kim Sets a Table for One

Every morning I wake up the same way. My alarm goes off and I get up and make one side of my bed. The other side is always stays made nicely unless a child has had a nightmare and sleeps with me. (Even then the bed is mostly made because he/she has clung to my body all night while I stayed awake to ensure I didn’t fall off the side.) After making the bed I go to the kitchen and flip “brew” on my single cup coffee maker and pack three brown bag lunches.


Prayer of Gratitude

My favorite moment is going to each child’s bed and planting a good morning kiss on their cheeks and saying a quick silent prayer of gratitude for each of them. I know I am very fortunate to have three healthy, great kids. I always try to remember that fact when I get down because I am a single mother who gets tired of setting the table with only one adult-sized fork.

I am not a complainer by nature. I know a lot of other people in this world have it worse than I do. But I do have plenty of days when I feel like I just don’t fit in. Read more »
